Recently, yoga and meditation have become increasingly popular concepts. In short, this course aims to explain these concepts correctly amidst the rapidly changing knowledge environment on the basis of their historical origins. Learning these concepts correctly based on knowledge will help you integrate yoga and meditation applications into your lives.


Course description

The introduction to yoga basics and meditation course is a beginner's course for those who want to know more about yoga and meditation applications. Within the scope of this course, a general framework will be presented in light of the main sources on the historical foundations of yoga. Participants will learn what the eight steps of yoga are according to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and will obtain information on which applications this will include. Traditional types of yoga and modern yoga approaches applied worldwide will be examined. Additionally, this course aims to present information on the importance of meditation application in daily life, what the different types and approaches to meditation are, and what meditation is in relation to yoga.

Özge Altay was born in 1981 in Adana. She completed her middle school and high school in 1999, graduating from the Seyhan Anadolu High School Foreign Languages Department. She graduated with high honors from her undergraduate degree at the Beykent University Arts and Sciences Faculty English Language and Literature Department in 2003 and completed her postgraduate training at the Beykent University English Language and Literature Department. She completed her doctorate at the Near East University Educational Sciences Institute Educational Programs and Teaching Department and conducted studies related to multicultural teacher training. Özge Altay completed 200 hours of Basic Yoga Trainer Training at Hariom Yoga under the leadership of Bora Ercan in 2014. She completed her training in the field of yoga for pregnant women under Jane Collins at the world-renowned organization Birthlight. Özge Altay has actively been giving yoga and pregnancy yoga lessons since 2014, while also working as a part-time lecturer at the Education Faculties of Near East University and the University of Kyrenia since 2015.
