Course Description

Summary of the webinar

Sustainably transforming and managing our urban space has many benefits, from promoting tourism to providing jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers. We would like to bring our focus to improving and managing public transport, creating green spaces, flexible societies, and affordable housing, and involving public and private partnerships for sustainable growth.

Maiya Suyunchaliyeva

Maiya Suyunchaliyeva is the founder of the youth social project "Tourism and Smart Cities" and a

member of “Friends for Leadership”. She is a PhD scholar and winner of the US government leadership

program, IVLP2021-22, and the coordinator of the Africa-Asia Intercontinental Dialogue at the UN in

Almaty. She is also a winner of the Academy of Youth Leadership in Central Asia grant supported by

USAID and the Eurasia Foundation in Central Asia. ​She is a leading specialist and coordinator of the

green campus at the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University. She was a part of the project

“Modernization of the digital content in the tourism sector in the Republic of Kazakhstan: Mobile

applications, Panoramic 3D tours, Interactive maps and QR codes”. She has written more than 30

articles in the field of innovation for the education sector and tourism in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Maiya has been a member of the Young Researchers Alliance at Nazarbayev University since 2019. ​As

part of her PhD research, she is currently researching "Innovation management in the sphere of tourism

in the frameworks of digital economy in the Republic of Kazakhstan". ​She has worked as a board

member of the Almaty City Branch of Jas Otan Youth Wing in Almaty from 2019-2020 in the education

and science sector supported by the Kazakhstan government.
